Bringing Home Your First Baby

Bringing Home Your Baby Bringing home your newborn baby is a very exciting time in a family’s life. You want to make sure everything is nice, neat and perfect. But often times parents forget about what their baby may need and not what looks nice. Some first time parents spend so much money on expensive cribs, baby sheets and clothes that can often overlook what happens when you do get to bring baby home. Your baby doesn’t understand that they have an expensive crib to sleep in or 300 count threaded sheet to sleep on. In fact, a good percentage of babies do not sleep in a crib until they are about 3 months or so.

You also have to take into consideration what you as parents will need when you bring the baby home. Some new parents have help from Moms and Mother In Laws to help them get started. Not everyone has that or the money to buy nice things. From one Mom to another, here are some ways to cope when you have no help and you are bringing home baby.

Make Sure Have Everything You Need

In order to have things so smoothly when you bring home the baby for the first time, you should make a list of everything you need before you get home. This list should include diapers, wipes, baby outfits (at least 5 to 10), baby clothes detergent, baby powder, baby bottles, formula, pacifiers and baby monitors. Not to mention the Crib or Bassinet where your child will be sleeping and all of the necessities that go with it. These include sheets, pajamas, and baby bumpers if you are planning to put them in the crib.

Then you will need baby wash clothes, baby soap, shampoo and more baby powder. The washcloths from Huggies work great simply run them under water and there is soap in them. These are easiest to use and you can toss them out when you are done. Now you should have everything you need for bathing, sleeping and feeding. These are the 3 basic things that you should have covered.

When You Don’t Have Help

There are many new moms that will be coming home to help. A bigger percentage of moms will not have help when they come home from the hospital. If you are one of these moms then you will have to work harder to get things accomplished. During the first few weeks you are getting to know your baby and how their schedule is panning out. Once you have this figured out, planning cooking and cleaning times will become easier. It is Ok not to hold your baby all the time. They can sit in the bassinet or a baby bouncer or carrier when they are born.

Some new moms have said taking a shower is hard. If both parents live together talk to your partner about setting aside 15 minutes a day for you to take a shower. If this is not possible, then simply bring the baby in the bathroom with you. Keep the water as low as you can and don’t create a steam bath in your bathroom and you can take a quick shower and have the baby in the room at the same time. If you have a deep bassinet or playpen, have the baby sleep in there and bring the baby monitor with you when you take a shower and you can hear everything!

When there is a will there is a way, there are new moms who have the luxury of help and those that do not. If you are lucky enough to have the help then appreciate every second of help that you have. New moms who don’t have help have a great way of making things work out. They develop a better sense of what is going on, the baby’s schedule and how they are going to do the things they need to accomplish in a day. Being a Mom is hard work but the rewards are what it makes everything worthwhile.
