Every new mom to be wants to equip their nurseries with everything they believe they will need to start off on the right foot. They purchase the crib, changing table and diapers, which are all important necessities, but they often find themselves registering for their baby showers and adding a Diaper Genie. The Diaper Genie is basically a diaper disposal canister that is supposed to store and avoid odors that accompany baby’s diapers.
Playtex the makers of baby products and other household products manufacturer the Diaper Genie System, has sold millions of these diaper disposal canisters all over the world. There used to be just the simple Diaper Genie, but of course with technology and better ideas they discontinued the original and have developed two other system, the Diaper Genie Elite II System and the Diaper Genie II System.
Diaper Genie Elite II System
The Diaper Genie Elite II System is an advanced style diaper genie and advertisers are calling it the next generation of the original Diaper Genie. This system has a double lock device making the Diaper Genie easy to secure. The original had a single lock device and it was a bit harder to lock down as the diapers started to fill up. This system was developed with an Antimicrobial Protection that is said to prevent odors from escaping as well as preventing bacteria that arises from dirty diapers.
The way this system is designed, the diapers will go right into the plastic film and not touch the genie itself. There is a pedal at the bottom of the system that you step on like a garbage pail. The idea is to never touch the diaper as you throw it away. Some of the features of the Diaper Genie Elite II System is that it has a 5-layer refill that protects the baby’s room from odors. This Diaper Genie is more ergonomic, meaning it is taller to use and you won’t have to bend down as much to simply throw away a diaper.
With the Diaper Genie Elite II System you will get a larger pail that can hold about 30 small diapers. There are refills available for the system and you can find them in your local retail stores like Walmart and Target.
Diaper Genie II Advanced Disposal System
This Diaper Genie is the replacement of the original Diaper Genie system. This system like the Elite II offers a single hand diaper
disposal system. They say you can hold your baby in one hand and throw away the diaper with the other. Some of the features of the Diaper Genie Advanced Disposal System is that it has the Playtex patented Air-Tite System that keeps odors from emitting from the diapers. This system can also hold about 30 small diapers. It is already assembled and all you have to do is add the refill film and you can start using your Diaper Genie System. There are refills available in your local Walmart, Target and local drugstores live CVS or Rite Aid.
Now that we have explained what the system is, I am going to share my experience with you and you can make up your mind whether this system is worth it. In concept the Diaper Genie is a great concept, I liked it so much that I bought one when my first child was born. To set it up, it did come assembled but you have to place the film in the genie. You pull out the film and you tie a knot on the bottom and make sure the opening of the film fits securely over the top of the Diaper Genie.
Then as you place the diapers in the genie you close the top and spin the top and it twists the film and lets you have more room for another diaper. When you have a newborn you will go through many diapers a day and the genie only hold about 30 small diapers, so you are cleaning the genie almost as much as you are changing the baby’s diaper. Then once you clean out the genie you have a couple of feet of twisted film that becomes unraveled as you empty the genie.

Diaper Genie Re Fills:
The refills are about $ 4.50 and higher, so you are spending extra money on the refills. You will need these about every week or so. New moms love the genie but if you are trying to save money, a garbage can with a top will do just fine. As new moms we try to buy every product for our baby but some of these products can be done without. If you had or have a Diaper Genie, please share your experience so other new moms can benefit from them.
