If you have never changed a baby’s diaper before it could prove to be a bit of a challenge. If you don’t think changing a baby boy’s diaper is different from changing a little girls’ diaper then you are in for a surprise. The best thing to do before hand is choose a diaper, new moms sometimes go with the more expensive diapers but if you want to be practical you can find a great diaper for a less expensive price.

If you have never changed a diaper before and you have a beautiful baby boy we can help you with a step by step guide on changing your baby. It is not as hard as it seems but it can be tricky because you have a couple of things going on at the same time. But don’t panic we can help you get it done in seconds. Remember safety comes first when changing your baby.

Step One

The first thing you need to do is secure a safe location for changing your baby. If you choose a changing table make sure it comes with the belts to help secure your baby. Some new parents think that newborns don’t move so they don’t use the straps but even newborns can scoot right off the table too. So always remember to secure your baby first.

Some new moms prefer to change their baby boys on the floor with a changing mat. This may be the safest place if changing tables make you nervous. Never leave your baby alone when changing them on a table, all it takes is one second for accidents to happen, even to newborns. Remember safety first.

Step Two

The second step is solely for the new mom, the best way to execute a successful diaper change is to get all of your supplies together. When changing a baby boy you will need the diaper, wipes, powder and possibly a change of clothes.

Some new moms choose to change the baby’s clothes while changing the diaper to make it more time efficient. If you are using a changing table make sure that everything you need is with arms’ length. It will help keep your baby safe as well as cut down on the amount of time it is going to take to change the diaper.

Step Three

Gently remove the diaper; it is best with baby boys’ to keep them covered until you are ready with the new diaper. Accidents will happen and your baby may give you an unexpected shower.  Here is a tip to remember, you can cut down on accidents if you change your baby boy in a warm room.

Cold air tends to make boys urinate more. Then simply wipe the baby if they urinated or thoroughly clean the baby if they went number 2.  With baby boys it is important to make sure that you clean all around the genital area.

Don’t rush, it is important for the baby’s health if you take the time and make sure that you clean the baby. If you don’t it could result in an infection or diaper rash.

Step Four

After you remove and change the baby’s diaper don’t worry so much about getting rid of the diaper. Some new moms get distracted trying to throw away the diaper. Put the baby’s clothes on right away, it is a good idea to keep them covered as much as possible so they don’t get chilly, even in the summer time. After you are ready to pick the baby up from the changing table or floor, then you can throw the diaper away. It is always a good idea to make sure that the baby is safe before throwing out the diapers.

Changing your newborn baby boy’s diaper can be challenging. You want to make sure that they are safe but you want to take your time and do a good job making sure that they are clean.

So remember these 4 steps, safety first, keep all items within arms reach, keep baby boy’s genitals covered to prevent an accident and lastly dispose of the diaper after the baby has been changed and picked up from the changing table.

Pretty soon you will have your own system and your own method of doing your diaper changes. It takes a bit of practice and some time but you will get the hang of it and soon enough you will be a pro at changing diapers.
